You, Inc. - Book Review

January 17th, 2008 by Debra Simpson

You Inc Book ReviewYou, Inc., The Art Of Selling Yourself by Harry Beckwith and Christine Clifford Beckwith is an easy read. I took it on our holiday road trip to Mom’s house. I was able to finish it within a few days. However, being an easy read doesn’t mean it wasn’t full of valuable info for running a small business.

What I loved best about You, Inc. is that in short stories and examples you discover strategies for selling, planning, relationships (which we are hearing so much about these days), and attitudes. They also reinforce the need for integrity in what you do.

One of the things I struggle with is remembering names. There are a couple of great examples of how to develop the ability to put a face and name together. I also enjoyed learning how to strengthen my relationships, and why our relationships are so important to our business success.

I like little books.  Little books that I can keep within reach for that moment of inspiration or motivation that these books offer. This is one of those little books that will always be within reach to help me move past any obstacles that might come my way. Check it out. If you’ve read it, offer up a comment!

Heart of the Holidays by Sheryl Roush

October 29th, 2007 by Debra Simpson

Heart of the Holidays by Sheryl RoushSheryl Roush, Sparkle Presentations, just released her tenth book, Heart of the Holidays, just in time for the holidays.

Sheryl has been a long time Toastmaster and is a story of inspiration all on her own. She’ s been bringing her message of hope, inspiration, and motivation to entrepreneurial women in San Diego County and to women, in general, all over the world.

To me, personally, Sheryl’s been an inspiration. I’ve seen how to take a message and create it in several different formats for delivery in a variety of methods. I’ve benefited, personally and professionally, by attending Sheryl’s many seminars on product creation and marketing. I’m even one of the many contributors to The Heart of the Woman and The Heart of a Mother books.

Sheryl’s new Heart of the Holidays makes an excellent business gift.  I’m sure if you ordered a few, you might be able to get Sheryl to personalize them for you.  Also, visit her new Heart Book Series site for more information and to leave your thoughts on what she’s doing on her blog.

Think and Grow Rich

September 14th, 2007 by Debra Simpson

Think and Grow RichThink and Grow RichThe Vista Chamber of Commerce held it’s "Good Morning, Vista" breakfast. The Guest Speaker was Don Sando, Strategic Results Group, speaking on moving from daily fire-fighting to strategic growth.

His reference to Napoleon Hill’s book, Think and Grow Rich!, and the six steps that are key to success:

  • Crystallize your thinking, set a goal; create a vision (that must be were our vision boards come into play ;-))))
  • Create a written plan
  • Develop a sincere desire
  • Acquire expert knowledge
  • Join a Master Mind group
  • Have a dogged determination to follow through

Every once in awhile, it’s nice to be reminded about those six steps. I know I some of them well, and some of them I can improve upon. I do keep my vision board right behind my laptop, where I know I can "visualize" my goals each day.

I also use Subliminal Desktop to rotate my affirmations on my screen throughout my day. There’s a free version, as well as the pro version, which let’s you edit the affirmations.

How do you stay focused on your goals? What tools do you use? Please leave your comments below!

Little Red Book of Selling

July 11th, 2007 by admin

While I was on vacation last week, I read Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Red Book of Selling. What a great book! It’s an easy read, well designed including plenty of additional resources on his website.

I think this is one book every solopreneur should have in their library. You’ll discover what it takes to be number one and, more importantly, stay number one! Add this book to your library today!
