Making Your Business SOUND Bigger Than Your Competition

November 14th, 2008 by Debra Simpson

I spoke with Bill Miller, Call Solutions Group about how his company makes solopreneurs or home based businesses sound bigger than they physically are through communication technologies.

I think with companies talking about laying off employees, there may be executives who are ready to take control of their future by starting their own consulting business. However, unlike me who loves being homebased and am very proud of being homebased, not everyone wants their clients to know they work from home.  Call Solutions Group provides a sophisticated telephone service that leaves the caller with the impression they are speaking to a much larger firm.

Take a listen and let me know what you think by commenting, and give Bill’s site a once over.

October 3rd, 2008 by Debra Simpson

I just finished my online radio show on syndicating your content.  Here is a list of the websites I refered to on the show.

  • Blogging – posting regularly – use your articles, or use your posts for articles
    Free at – blogger.com and wordpress.com

  • Guest Blogging

  • FeedBurner
www.feedburner.com – has a feature, Buzz Boost, that allows you to import your content into a website

  • Social Networking – Facebook has notes that let you post to Facebook – other social sites have blogging features

  • MyBlogLog – allows you to import your blog feed

Farrah Douglas Carlsbad City Council Candidate

When I started my first business in 1990, I joined a networking group. The printer was represented by Farrah Douglas, CDS Printing in Carlsbad. I was as impressed with her then, as I am now that I work with her on the Carlsbad Chamber’s Communications Committee.

Farrah is running for the seat being vacated by Julie Nygaard. Farrah and I sat down for an interview I hope you’ll find enlightening. Let me know what you think by commenting below.

Mindy Selinger The Link System

I recently had the opportunity to meet with Mindy Selinger, Power Partner Connections and The Link System, to talk about business networking. This is the perfect time to hone your networking skills. The Four Chamber mixer is coming to Tri City Hospital on April 17th.

Sheila McDonnell and the Women In Business Symposium

February 19th, 2008 by Debra Simpson

Sheila McDonnel Women In Business Symposium

I had the opportunity to sit down with Sheila McDonnell of the Women In Business Symposium to discuss what the symposium is and why it’s important to the women’s business community.

Sheila’s been producing this symposium for the past nine years, originally held at Morgan Run, but now moved to the San Diego Fairgrounds (or as us locals call it, the Del Mar Fairgrounds) as the symposium grew larger.

There are still opportunities for sponsorships, roundtable facilitating and of course, attending. Visit the Women In Business Symposium for more details. Here’s the interview, and please add to the conversation by commenting below.  Will you be attending?

760 Media Looks To Deliver Online, A Small Business Interview

February 8th, 2008 by Debra Simpson

760media.com The Ad Agency with Big Ideas

Show Notes

I had the opportunity to sit down with Jeff Donnelley of 760 Media Inc. to discuss marketing and branding for solopreneurs and small business owners. Some of the interesting aspects he covered had to do with branding, and developing a brand for your business. Another upcoming trend we discussed were Web 2.0 and  3.0, which include blogging and podcasting. He’s looking to expand his business by taking his marketing and advertising agency online.

Made To Stick BookAs usual, I asked Jeff what was his one "must have" book and it’s Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die, by Chip and Dan Heath.

You’ll find his take on branding, future marketing trends, web 2.0 and 3.0, as well as why you should consider taking your business online. I hope you’ll find a golden nugget or two of information or a strategy that you can use in your small business to take it to the next level. Please feel free to add to the conversation by commenting below.

Good Management Skills Increase Your Profits

January 23rd, 2008 by Debra Simpson

The Management InitiativeOn February 5th at the Handlery Hotel, businesses can learn some new and progressive management strategies. We’re  always looking for profitable strategies. One huge investment for any small business is the hiring, training and development of good employees. Yet, what kind of atmosphere do you provide for your employees? Here’s a management style to think about…kindness!

The Management Initiative is part of a nationwide effort to promote business success through a kinder leadership style and is offering a one day workshop to share these strategies with small business owners. Endless research supports the fact that a kind working environment means better business results…and yet something is missing.

What they aren’t telling you is that it requires very specific management skills and the right marketing, strategic, and legal efforts to support that kind environment. Only about 3% of decision makers know what these skills are, but Reut Schwartz-Hebron and The Management Initiative do and they want to spread those skills like a virus.

You’ll learn what those very successful 3% know about combining a kind business style with outstanding business results, so you can start enjoying financial security without giving up on being the person you want to be.

The Management Initiative wants to give you some of the new skills you’ll need to promote your business success with the intention of modeling a new set of excellence standards in the most influential part of society. You get accessibility to top expert skills, tools, and keys for outstanding business results and we all take another step toward a better future.

Reut Schwartz-Lebron The Management InitiativeI recently met Reut Schwartz-Hebron, international speaker, an author and a trainer. She is the founder of the Managzement Initiative Project, the president of the Kind-Excellence Institute and the owner of MetaConsulting Solutions. Reut is the author of "Outswim the Sharks" and is personally dedicated to training executives in using Kind Excellence management skills. Over the past 12 years, Reut supported organizations of all sectors and sizes to increase their overall productivity.

Reut and I sat down for an interview about her vision and the passion behind sharing why kindness is your strongest ally and how to make it lead to more income than any other business style. She’s holding a one day event on February 5th here in San Diego on The Management Initiative. To get more information, or register for the event visit The Management Initiative.

As always, I invite you to share your theories on management strategies by commenting! Enjoy the interview.
