On Friday, February 6th the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce’s First Friday Breakfast will host Jana Barnhill, President of Toastmasters International. Jana will be presenting "Effectively Communicate To Give Your Business An Edge."
Jana graciously accepted my offer to interview her on Toastmasters International and how speaking skills enhance your business success. Here is the audio of that interview, and a shameless plug for my own Toastmaster’s Club, Tick Talk Toastmasters. We meet each Thursday evening at 7pm at Carlsbad By The Sea located at Carlsbad Blvd. and Grand Ave. Stop by and see what we are all about.

Hi Debra,
I am D D Daruvala a DTM and Past District Officer from District 80(Singapore). have even been a toastmaster in District 22 in USA from 1996-1998.
I have known Jana for 4 years and she is a very good friend of mine.
She is the BEST TOASTMASTER AND INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT one can ever imagine. While there are many fine toastmasters if you look carefully hardly anyone comes close to Jana. No one in and out of toastmasters I have known has so much kindness and humility.
If I could I would write a book about Jana as well as a collection of all her masterpiece speeches. She never ceases to captivate audiences in both her oral and written speeches. I guess she is a masterpiece by herself!
That was a great interview with excellent questions and answers. I especially liked the discussion on CPA’s and Engineers. Although I am a Manager and Lecturer/Trainer at present I am an Engineer by qualification and I know for a fact that a large number of Engineers while having excellent technical knowledge and analytical skills have poor communication skills as well as low EQ and people skills. How sad that many of them think they are so smart that communication and toastmasters is soft stuff that is beneath them.
Everyone can benefit from enhanced communication skills through toastmasters provided they utilise the program and dont just use it as a social club.
I have shared with Jana that although I am a DTM I will never cease to work the programs and it has had a tremendous impact on my life. I can also conclude by saying that my happpiest moment in toastmasters was when I got to know Jana.
Regards,
DD
